Leaves can turn yellow due to overwatering, underwatering, or lack of sunlight, but if the leaves are curling while turning yellow then it means that the plant is underwatered.

Overwatering may cause the leaves of the plant to look black, this may later on lead to root rot which can be identified with a foul odor and soft, black roots.

Spots on leaves may be the aftermath of a plant disease, which may be due to pests. Cut off all the damaged leaves and make sure the plant get's ample indirect sunlight and correct amount of water.

Stick your finger around 1-1.5 inches deep into the soil, if the soil feels dry then you need to water the plant.
